Some information about our town:

We are a rural community of about 500 residents covering about 35 square miles.  We have some of the most beautiful land in western New York and we enjoy the peace and quiet of our country setting.  Many plots of land in Grove are used for summer homes, vacation cottages, and campsites.  In fact, roughly 60% of the land in Grove is owned by non-residents.

Building in Grove  -  We have a zoning ordinance which provides for a Business District surrounding the Hamlet of Swain and an Agricultural District covering the rest of the town.  We welcome development but building permits are required.  You may obtain information concerning zoning and permits from our Code Enforcement Officer, Bob Lloyd.   You can download a building permit application from the following link:

Dog Control  - The Town of Grove comes under the New York State Ag & Markets laws.  Vaccinations and dog licenses are required and all dogs are required to be under the control of their owners at all times.  We also have a local law covering dogs in town.

Fire Protection  -  The western portion of town is served by the Nunda Fire Department and the Nunda Ambulance Squad.  The eastern portion of Town is served by the Canaseraga Fire Department and Ambulance Squad.

Police  - The New York State Police provide protection for our entire community.

Roads  - We are proud of our Highway Department which consists of Highway Superintendent Jesse Griffith and three men.  Jesse and his crew are responsible for the maintenance of our town roads, most of which are gravel.  Allegany County maintains all county roads and the New York State DOT maintains route 70, the only state road in Grove.  The Grove Highway Department provides snow plowing for all roads in Grove.  On snowy days, the crew generally starts at 4 am.  They plow all main roads first and then tackle the smaller roads.
